How to Blend Alcohol Markers: Timing, Stock and Order

Then go back over the join with the lighter pen while both are damp. Alcohol travels towards wet, so the light pen pushes the dark boundary outward and softens it.
Move in overlapping circles, not lines. Parallel strokes leave visible banding because each stroke's edge dries before the next one lands beside it. Small overlapping circular passes keep a moving wet front, which is the only condition under which the dyes mix.
Stop when the area stops being wet. This is the rule people break. An area that has dried will not blend, and adding more ink to it deposits more dye without reopening the join. Let it dry fully, then reapply the lighter colour over the whole patch to reset the surface.
Use the lighter colour as a blender. A colourless blender is a pen of solvent with no dye. It lifts, it softens and it pushes colour outward, and it is genuinely useful for corrections. It is not required to merge two colours, because the lighter of the two carries the same solvent and its own dye. That answers the 30 searches a month asking how to do this without one.

It takes the solvent into the fibre almost immediately, which closes the blending window before a second colour can arrive, and it lets the dye spread sideways past the intended edge. Practising Without Wasting Ink
