Drying out is the angriest topic in the corpus. 5,438 mentions across 64 products, 4,251 of them negative. That 78% negative rate is higher than any other topic with more than a thousand mentions. It is also the most fixable, because most of these reports are not about ink life at all. They are about pens that arrived dead. Dot and dauber. Water-based dye in a sponge applicator. 78 products, 14,380 searches. Paper and cardboard only. On any non-absorbent surface it pools and never dries.
What the Tip Shape Changes

Product data comes from 4,486 Amazon listings across 908 brands, with specifications, prices, ratings, badges and 6,562 recorded search placements. Buyer evidence comes from 17,314 "Customers say" topic summaries spanning 2,762 products, each with mention, positive and negative counts and verbatim quotes, plus 5,201 individual review rows.
The matrix verdicts are chemistry applied to surface, cross-checked against measured demand and against what buyers reported when the pairing failed. A cell is only marked works when the ink is formulated for that surface. Conditional means there is a stated condition, and the condition is named in the cell rather than implied.
What is not used is worth stating too. No brand pays for placement or for a verdict. No vendor sends samples.
