Black Expo Dry Erase Marker: Which Pack Is Worth Buying

Black is the only EXPO dry erase colour this catalogue sells on its own in any quantity: 27 of 109 products are black-only, against 8 blue and none in yellow. It is also where the pricing gets strange. The same black low-odour marker ranges from $0.44 to $1.50 a pen depending on which pack you pick up.

Sixty-six phrasings of the black EXPO query carry 2,420 searches a month between them, the largest EXPO sub-cluster on this site. "Black expo markers" leads at 600, "expo black dry erase markers" takes 200, and "thin black expo markers" another 200. Almost none of it is a compatibility question. People have already decided on the pen. They want to know which box.

The Price Spread Nobody Mentions

Seven black EXPO products sit in this catalogue with a recorded price and count. Reduced to price per pen, they do not line up the way pack sizes usually do.

The Failure That Actually Ends These Pens

Black EXPO markers do not usually die of being used up. They die in the barrel. The second quote matters more than the first, because that buyer did everything right. Storage helps and does not solve it.

There is a purchasing consequence, and it argues against the 36-count for most rooms. A pack that takes two years to work through is a pack whose last third has been sitting capped in a drawer for eighteen months, and the drying-out reports are dominated by pens that were never used rather than pens that were used up.
